Chapter I
Four & More GmbH is an engineering studio. We design, build and maintain custom software, web platforms and cloud systems for organisations that need those systems to keep working for a long time.
Overview
The studio exists to do a specific kind of work well: applied software engineering for organisations that treat their internal systems as long-term infrastructure rather than disposable projects. We are not a large consultancy and we are not a product company. We are an engineering team.
Every engagement is led by senior engineers who take direct responsibility for the technical decisions, the code, and the operational life of what we ship.

Purpose & philosophy
Software has a long tail. The interesting part of a system is usually not the launch — it's the years afterwards, when the business changes, integrations shift, teams rotate, and requirements evolve. We think engineering should be organised around that reality.
That means writing code that other people can read, choosing architectures that can be explained on a whiteboard, and documenting decisions so that the next person to open a file understands why it looks the way it does.
Approach to technology
We're happy to work with modern tools when they solve a real problem, and equally happy to reach for something older and stabler when that's the better choice. We evaluate technology on the same criteria we'd use for any long-lived material: how does it age, who maintains it, what does it cost to keep in service, and how easy is it to move away from?

Collaboration
Our engagements are structured around close collaboration with the people who will use, own or operate the system. That usually means regular working sessions with product owners, weekly demos with stakeholders, and continuous access to the working software as it evolves.
We prefer written asynchronous communication for decisions that need to be recorded, and short synchronous sessions for the ones that need real conversation.
Quality standards
Quality, for us, is measured in things that only become visible over time: how easily a new engineer can join the project; how quickly an incident can be diagnosed; how confidently a change can be deployed on a Friday afternoon.
Concretely, that means automated tests for the parts of a system that matter, code review on every change, migrations that can be rolled back, and infrastructure defined in code so that environments can be rebuilt from scratch.

Security & reliability
Security is treated as a set of design decisions rather than a checklist at the end of a project. Authentication, authorisation, secrets handling, encryption, audit logging and data retention are considered from the first architectural discussion.
Reliability is treated the same way. Systems are designed to fail gracefully, to be observable in production, and to be recovered from backups whose restore procedures have actually been tested.

Long-term thinking
We prefer to work with clients over long time horizons. Software that runs a business isn't finished when it goes live; it needs to be maintained, extended and occasionally rethought. Our engagements are structured to make that continuity possible, without locking anyone into a relationship they'd rather leave.
Wherever practical, we make sure that documentation, source, infrastructure definitions and operational knowledge can be transferred to your own team at any point.
Working with organisations
Most projects start with a written brief and a short paid discovery phase. The goal of discovery is to produce a shared, honest picture of the problem, a proposed technical direction, an estimate of scope, and a clear set of risks. From there, both sides can decide whether continuing is the right thing to do.
We are comfortable joining projects at any stage: from a blank page, from an existing prototype, or as a second team supporting an in-house engineering group.
Closing
Four & More GmbH is a small engineering studio building custom software, web platforms and cloud systems for organisations that need dependable, long-lived technology. We work in senior teams, take direct responsibility for what we ship, and prefer engagements measured in years rather than sprints.
